Men Only were an indie/glum-pop band formed in 2009 in Leeds by three friends: Pete Sykes (guitar/bass, vocals), Clare Stemp (drums) and Al Brown (bass/guitar, vocals.) They played about four gigs and recorded six songs before the death of Pete, at the age of 30, in September 2011. The Utah EP was originally released via Bandcamp in June 2012. A fourth member, Dave Robertshaw (guitar/backing vocals), joined them just before the recording of these songs which were captured in the basement studio of Ben Siddall (The Lodger/The Birthday Kiss) in the summer of 2011.

Grupo de amigos que graba 6 canciones maravillosas con un genio como Ben Siddall de The Lodger (el mejor grupo de pop británico de los últimos 15 años) y a los que la vida les da un golpe terrible con la pérdida de su guitarra y compositor con apenas 30 años. Deciden autopublicarse las 6 canciones en un 3″ CD poco después como homenaje al pobre Pete (también en This Many Boyfriends), llegando a llamar la atención del gran Paul Heaton (Housemartins, The Beautiful South), que los recomienda apasionadamente a todo aquel que quiera escucharlo.

Y hasta hoy, que con vuestra ayuda ven editado en vinilo esta pasada de indiepop heroico repleto de himnos que corear mientras haces air guitar desenfrenadamente.

Remember how Bill Murray woke up to I Got You Babe every day in Groundhog Day? If that song would have been Made Of Moods, he at the very least experienced three and a half perfect minutes each day. It’s one of those songs that I enjoy each and every second of, with it’s jangly guitars and hushed vocals that almost have a Beach Boys vibe, especially in the verse. Truly, it’s a song for the ages.
